Accountant CV Example 2026: Template, Skills and Bullet Points

An accountant CV should describe the records you worked with, the checks you performed and the outputs you prepared. Match the vacancy's accounting duties with evidence. Do not add a tax system, ERP product or professional designation simply because it appears in a Saudi or UAE job advert.

The example below is fictional and instructional. Replace every placeholder with your facts and remove any experience or skill you do not have. Its tasks are not a real customer's results.

Accountant CV: match the accounting task, not just the title

A junior accounting vacancy can focus on payables, receivables, reconciliations or supporting reports. Identify the actual tasks before choosing your bullets. A graduate can describe coursework accurately; an experienced applicant should lead with relevant work. Do not claim responsibility for signing accounts, tax advice or an audit merely because you assisted with a schedule.

Task in the vacancyEvidence to considerAccurate wording
Bank reconciliationComparison of entries and unresolved differencesPrepared a reconciliation exercise / supported reconciliation, as true
Accounts payableInvoice references, approvals or missing documentsChecked invoice details and flagged missing references
Accounts receivablePayment matching and outstanding-item recordsMatched sample payments to invoice references
Reporting supportA supporting schedule and checksPrepared the schedule for supervisor review

Write accounting bullets that show how you checked the work

Fictional graduate accounting project

Bank-reconciliation exercise | [Course, month year]

Compared the cash-book entries with a fictional bank statement and listed unmatched items.

Separated timing differences from entries needing investigation instead of forcing the totals to agree.

Prepared a supporting schedule with references so the reviewer could trace each item.

Classroom exercise; no client accounts or professional audit opinion.

The checking method gives the reader something concrete to assess. If you have actual work experience, use your real scope and supervision. Avoid copying a financial result from a sample. A percentage improvement needs a known starting point, end point and contribution before it belongs in your CV.

Show software and qualifications at the right level

Name software you have actually used and say what you did with it. Excel filters and lookup formulas are more precise than “all accounting software.” Distinguish an introductory course from workplace use. Write the official qualification and issuer, and make ongoing study or pending assessment explicit. Follow the vacancy for any required professional credentials; a CV example does not establish eligibility.

Use a portfolio without exposing accounting records

A junior applicant can publish a fictional reconciliation exercise with an explanation of the checks. Keep real client ledgers, bank information, signatures and internal reports out. Redacting a name alone may not remove identifying details. If you cannot share the underlying work, describe the process at a level you are permitted to disclose.

Use the skills examples to connect software to a task and the portfolio guide to explain a permitted sample. Keep the accounting CV concise enough that the employer can find the qualification and relevant evidence quickly.

Finance work is confidential, but you can still show how you work: a model with fake numbers, a reconciliation process map or a reporting template. The accountant section of portfolio examples for jobs explains what to include and what to keep out.

What if I have no accounting job yet?
Use education and clearly labelled practice projects before unrelated employment. The graduate CV guide explains how to build that structure.
Should I mention UAE or Saudi tax rules?
Mention study or experience only when true and relevant to the role. Do not present awareness of a rule as professional advisory experience. Check current requirements through the appropriate official source when the application requires them.

Turn broad accounting claims into traceable work

  • Replace 'responsible for accounts' with the records, action and review: 'Compared invoice amounts with purchase records and escalated mismatches.' This shows scope without claiming you approved payments.
  • Name a local tax or reporting process only if you worked on it and can explain your role. Learning the terminology is different from preparing or filing a return.
  • For an accounts-payable role in Dubai, put invoice evidence first. For a Riyadh reporting role, lead with the relevant report or reconciliation. Preserve the same underlying facts.
  • If you lack a placement, remove that section and expand the academic project. Never copy the fictional placement as employment.

Why the example is written this way

The exception list is a concrete deliverable. 'Referred to the supervising accountant' makes responsibility clear and avoids overstating authority over financial decisions.
