Turn a resume into a portfolio: a worked example from claim to proof

Start with one resume claim and attach the work that makes it understandable: a screenshot, a short explanation and your contribution. A portfolio can help when the employer needs to inspect work. It does not replace the CV or an application form the vacancy requires.

From a CV entry to a project with evidence

Worked example · fictional coursework

Give one CV entry room to explain the work

The CV gives the task in one sentence. The project page gives a reviewer enough context to understand your decisions and contribution.

On the CV

Supplier comparison for a student shop

Compared three fictional suppliers in a spreadsheet, accounting for minimum order quantities and delivery costs.

In the portfolio

Supplier comparison for a student shop

Brief
Recommend a supplier for a classroom retail scenario with a limited purchasing budget.
My contribution
Built the comparison sheet and checked each supplier’s minimum order, delivery charge and unit price. The group made the final recommendation.
Decision
Compared the total order cost, not just the cheapest unit price. A larger minimum order could exceed the exercise’s budget.
Evidence to add
A readable screenshot of the comparison, a link to a view-only sheet with the fictional data, and a short explanation of the formulas.
Limits
This was coursework. It did not save money for a real employer, and no business impact is claimed.

Build your version in ArcPixel

  1. Choose a portfolio template.Start with a layout that gives your projects and contribution enough space. The Airframe preview below shows its own demo content.
  2. Import the starting text.In the portfolio editor, open the resume fill options, choose “Use resume directly”, then “Upload resume”. This fills matched fields and can overwrite their existing text. Review those fields before continuing.
  3. Add the evidence yourself.Expand one imported entry into a project like the example above. Add work you have permission to share, explain what you did and remove unsupported claims. Importing a CV does not create the underlying evidence.
  4. Preview and check the application link.Review the mobile layout, spelling and project links. Creating and previewing are free; publishing a portfolio and exporting a resume PDF require a paid plan. After publishing, test the public link while signed out.

RESUME ENTRY

University supplier-comparison project — compared delivery, cost and order requirements for three fictional suppliers.

PORTFOLIO PROJECT

Title: Choosing a supplier for a student retail exercise

Brief: Our group needed a recommendation based on a fictional purchasing scenario.

My contribution: I structured the comparison spreadsheet and checked the source values.

Work to show: A redacted comparison table, the criteria and one recommendation slide.

Decision: The lowest unit cost did not necessarily fit the order size, so we compared total requirements.

Limitations: This was coursework using fictional suppliers, not a procurement decision for a real business.

Turn a resume into a portfolio website in ArcPixel

Start with a current resume and a small selection of work you are allowed to share. ArcPixel's resume and portfolio builder can import resume content into a portfolio, but the imported text is a starting draft. A strong project page explains your role, method and output. Keep the CV focused on the application and use the website to give useful evidence more room.

1. Prepare the file you want to import

The current upload flow accepts PDF, DOCX and plain text files up to 10 MiB. Use a file with readable text. An image-only scan may not yield usable resume fields; text extraction is not a promise of OCR. Open the file and check that your name, dates and section headings are correct before uploading. Remove information that does not belong on a public website, including document numbers or a private home address.

2. Choose a portfolio and use the resume-fill action

Open the portfolio editor and choose the resume option in the AI fill dialog. The current controls are labelled “Use resume directly” and “Upload resume.” That action fills matched fields on this portfolio and can overwrite existing matched content. Save any wording you want to retain before using it on an existing portfolio. Review the result and save; an upload does not mean the website is published.

The resume builder has a separate “Import from existing resume” path for creating an editable resume document. Use that path when you want a PDF resume. Use the portfolio-fill path when you want website content. Neither workflow implies that later edits to one automatically update the other.

3. Map the resume to useful website sections

Resume contentWebsite destinationWhat you still need to add
ProfileShort introductionThe kind of work you want and a clear contact action
Project bulletProject section or case studyProblem, your contribution, method, output and limitations
EmploymentExperience sectionSelected evidence that you are allowed to publish
SkillsShort skills sectionLinks or descriptions connecting the claim to a project
Contact detailsContact sectionA public contact method you are comfortable sharing

4. Expand one CV bullet into a project case study

Fictional project example: from CV to portfolio

CV BULLET: Compared stock records and documented missing entries in a university inventory project.

PROJECT TITLE: Finding missing entries in a sample stock log.

CONTEXT: A classroom exercise using fictional stock and transaction data.

MY ROLE: Checked records and wrote the exception list; other team members prepared the input data.

METHOD: Matched item references, flagged duplicates and separated missing values from confirmed zero stock.

OUTPUT: An annotated comparison sheet and instructions for repeating the checks.

LIMITATIONS: No live warehouse deployment or measured commercial savings.

EVIDENCE: A permitted screenshot or sample file with readable captions.

This adds information a CV cannot fit comfortably. It also gives the interviewer a question to ask: how did you distinguish missing data from zero? Use your own project details. Do not turn a fictional illustration into a claimed client case study.

5. Choose evidence for your profession

ApplicationUseful portfolio materialLeave out
Junior accountingA fictional reconciliation exercise with a short explanationClient ledgers, real bank details or an unsupported audit claim
Customer serviceA fictional case-handling example showing notes and escalationIdentifiable customer conversations
Junior software engineeringA permitted demo, setup instructions and your contributionSecrets, private repositories or features you cannot explain
Student internshipA finished assignment with the brief, method and reflectionCourse titles without any work to inspect

If you have no shareable work yet, a clear professional profile may be enough for now. Do not add empty project cards to make the website look larger. Complete a small relevant exercise, label it as personal work, then add it when you can explain the result.

Review the portfolio on a phone and desktop. Open every link while signed out, check headings and contact details, and remove placeholder names. Creating and previewing are free; publishing needs a paid plan. Check the current pricing before choosing a plan. A generated draft, saved edit and published website are different states.

After publishing, place the portfolio link next to your contact details on the CV or in the application field provided for it. Keep submitting the requested CV file. A website can support the application but does not replace an attachment the employer requires. For applications in Dubai or Riyadh, follow the employer’s language instructions and make the website and CV agree on dates and qualifications.

Resume-to-portfolio questions

Want the first draft done for you? The resume to portfolio website generator shows how ArcPixel fills a portfolio from your resume in one step. For what to show in your field, see portfolio examples for jobs; to compare tools that make both documents, read best resume and portfolio builder.

Will my resume and portfolio stay synchronized?
Do not assume automatic synchronization. Review each document after making changes and check both before sending an application. The portfolio upload fills matched fields at the time you use it.
Can I use a scanned PDF?
The upload accepts PDF, but an image-only scan may not contain extractable text. Try a text-based PDF, DOCX or plain-text version and inspect the imported fields.
Do I need to code?
You can edit portfolio content through ArcPixel’s editor. You still need to choose relevant examples, verify imported information and review the public result.
Is the upload free and unlimited?
Do not assume unlimited AI use. Import and AI actions can be subject to account limits. Check the limits shown in your account; PDF export and website publishing require a paid plan.

Build a small page that supports the CV

  • Select work that matters to the target role. A junior developer can show a repository and test instructions; an accountant can show an original practice reconciliation with no client records.
  • Explain your contribution before displaying a gallery. For a team project, distinguish what you did from the team's overall output.
  • Keep names, dates and qualifications consistent between the resume and portfolio. An imported draft still needs manual review.
  • Check every link while signed out and on a phone. Remove confidential, patient, customer or employer data; use permission-cleared work or a clearly labelled original exercise.

Why the example is written this way

The portfolio expands one resume line into an explanation a reviewer can assess. It preserves the fictional coursework context instead of presenting a sample as commercial success.
