An internship CV should say what you are studying, when you expect to graduate, what you can contribute now and when you can attend. Put education and one relevant project near the top. State that a degree is in progress.
The example below is fictional and instructional. Replace every placeholder with your facts and remove any experience or skill you do not have. Its tasks are not a real customer's results.

EXPERIENCE
[Real volunteering or part-time role with dates, if any]
SKILLS
Content planning; spreadsheet organisation; [design tool actually used].
AVAILABILITY
Available [dates], [days/hours], subject to [actual university timetable].
Choose evidence for the internship department
An internship CV should explain what you are studying, when you can join and what you have already practised. Read the advertised tasks and select one relevant assignment. Marketing, engineering and operations internships require different evidence. Keep the same factual education record, but use the project that helps the receiving team understand your preparation.
| Department | Possible project evidence | Detail to add |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | A course campaign or content plan | Audience, your contribution and how you chose the message |
| Operations | A scheduling or record-checking exercise | Inputs, checking method and resulting handover |
| Software | A working feature or test exercise | Language, test cases and your individual contribution |
| Finance | A practice analysis or reconciliation | Data source, assumptions and how you checked the result |
Keep student status and dates unambiguous
Write “Expected graduation: [month year]” when the degree is ongoing. Put an accurate start date and any relevant schedule constraint where the employer can find it. Do not mark a planned internship as experience before it happens. If the placement is part of a Saudi cooperative-training requirement, use the cooperative-training guide and check the university letter.
Education and project section: fictional example
EDUCATION: [Degree], [University] | Expected graduation: [month year]
RELEVANT PROJECT: Event registration plan | [month year]
Mapped the registration steps for a student event and prepared a sample attendee sheet.
Checked duplicate entries and wrote instructions for the volunteer taking the next shift.
My contribution: process notes and spreadsheet checks. Academic exercise; no commercial event delivery claimed.
Use a small portfolio to explain the assignment
For the event example, show a sample sheet with fictional names, then explain the duplicate check and handover. A reader should see what you made without needing access to a university account. If the project belongs to a team, credit collaborators and identify your contribution. Avoid publishing course materials or participant data unless you have permission.
The resume-to-portfolio guide shows how to move from a short CV bullet to a fuller project description. The website is optional: keep providing the CV and any attachments requested by the employer.
Coursework, society roles and volunteering all count as portfolio work if you label them honestly. Portfolio examples for jobs has a student section, and how to make a portfolio for a job walks through the steps.
- Can I include unrelated part-time work?
- Yes, when it demonstrates a useful task such as customer communication, accurate records or reliability in a real shift. Explain the relevant work without changing the job title.
- Should I list every university module?
- Choose modules only when they help explain relevant preparation. A completed assignment with your contribution is often more useful than a long course list.
- Do I need a cover letter?
- Follow the application instructions. If one is requested, use the internship letter example and connect one project to the department.
Make the placement practical to assess
- Distinguish a summer internship from a university-mandated cooperative placement. If the employer needs an official placement letter, obtain it from your institution.
- Name the work you completed, such as draft posts or a content calendar. Do not claim ownership of the whole campaign when your role was writing drafts.
- For a UAE or Saudi placement, check location, attendance and university conditions before promising full-time availability. Do not invent your university's approval.
- Link one small work sample if it helps explain the project. Confirm that a signed-out reader can open it and remove participant contact details.
Why the example is written this way
The availability line answers a logistical question the project cannot answer. The expected graduation date prevents a current student from appearing to hold a completed qualification.
Next step
Most placements also ask for a letter: use the internship cover letter example. Use the UAE guide or Saudi guide for your application, or return to the guides hub. Use the resume builder to organise your information. Building and previewing are free; PDF export requires a paid plan. See pricing.
