Singapore Resume Format: What Employers Expect and a Sample to Copy

A Singapore resume is usually one to two pages in English, focused on recent experience with measurable results. Photo, age, race, religion and marital status are not needed, and fair-employment guidelines discourage employers from asking for them. Foreign applicants should state their nationality and current work-pass status, because hiring a foreigner requires a valid pass.

These are common practices, not legal rules, and employers differ. Every example is fictional; replace each [bracketed] detail with your own, and follow the job posting when it asks for something specific.

What a Singapore CV usually includes

SectionWhat to write
Contact detailsName, phone, email, LinkedIn
Professional summaryThree lines with your role, years of experience and main result
Work experienceMost recent first, with achievements and numbers
EducationDegree, university and year
Skills and certificationsTechnical skills, SkillsFuture or professional certificates
Work-pass statusCitizen, PR, or the pass you hold or need (foreign applicants)

What to leave out under fair-employment guidelines

Singapore's Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices ask employers to select on merit and not on age, race, gender, religion, marital status or family responsibilities. You do not need to include these on your resume, or a photo. Expected salary is often asked in application forms; you can give a range there instead of on the resume.

Work passes for foreign applicants

Foreign professionals usually need an Employment Pass or S Pass, applied for by the employer through the Ministry of Manpower. Stating your status upfront saves time for both sides. Search jobs on MyCareersFuture, the national jobs portal, as well as company sites.

Do Singapore resumes need a photo?
No. It is not expected, and fair-employment guidelines discourage selection on appearance or personal characteristics.
Should I include my expected salary?
Not on the resume. Give a range when the application form or recruiter asks.
Can I apply from overseas?
Yes, but most roles require the employer to obtain a work pass for you; state your status clearly.
