A fresher resume should fit on one page and lead with what you can show: contact details, an optional two-line summary, education, three to five projects, internships if you have them, grouped skills and certifications you can verify. Work experience moves lower or drops out. Use one column, standard headings and a text-based PDF.
Most resume templates are built for someone with several jobs to list, so the first big section is Work Experience. A fresher who copies that order ends up with a thin experience section at the top and their strongest material, the projects, pushed to the bottom. The fresher resume format fixes this by changing the order, not by padding.

A part-time job unrelated to the role is not useless. Serving customers or running a shop counter shows reliability and time management. Keep it as one short line under an "Other experience" heading instead of giving it a full section at the top.
Contact details: what to include and what to leave out
One line is enough: name, phone number, a professional email address, your city and a LinkedIn URL. Add GitHub for software roles and a portfolio link for design roles. Some older fresher resume formats also list date of birth, marital status, religion or parents' names. Most private employers do not ask for these, so leave them off unless the application form requests them. Write a two-line summary, or skip it
A summary for a fresher should say who you are and what you want, in about 30 words. If you cannot write it without falling back on "hardworking team player seeking a challenging opportunity", leave the section out. No summary is better than a generic one. Education section for freshers
Write the degree, the institution and the graduation year, or the expected year if you are still studying. Include your grade (CGPA or percentage) when it is a strength or when the job posting sets a cutoff; campus recruiters often filter on it, and leaving it off can raise the question. Add two or three relevant courses only when the role is specialised, such as machine learning or accounting. For a general role, coursework lines use space without telling the reader much.
Projects for a resume for freshers
Projects are where a fresher proves they can do the work, so they get most of the page. Pick three to five and order them by how relevant they are to the job, not by date. Each project needs four things:
- A plain title that says what it is in a few words.
- The tools you used, as a short list.
- Two or three bullets: what you built, which part was yours if it was a team project, and a result someone could check.
- A link to the code, a live version or a write-up, if one exists.

Do not invent numbers. If you have no metric, describe the scope instead: how many screens, which data set, which feature you shipped. A college or course project is fine to list; label it as an academic project rather than calling it work experience. Recruiters notice the difference, and it costs trust in the rest of the resume.
Internships, training and part-time work
List internships the same way as a job: organisation, role, dates and two or three bullets. Write about what changed because of your work, not a list of duties copied from the offer letter. Mandatory college training, apprenticeships and volunteer roles can go here too if they relate to the job.
Skills: group them and keep only what you can defend
A list of 30 technologies in one paragraph is hard to read and invites questions you may not be able to answer. Group eight to twelve skills into a few lines, and include only tools you have used on a real project. Interviewers often ask about any line on a fresher's resume. Certifications and achievements
Include items that are recent and relevant and that you can talk about: a hackathon placing, a scholarship, a paper, a leadership role in a student body, or a certification from the vendor of a tool the job uses. Leave out attendance awards and short introductory courses that every applicant has. Never list a certification you have not completed.

Common fresher resume mistakes
- Running to two pages. A fresher resume fits on one.
- Calling course projects "work experience".
- An objective paragraph that could belong to anyone.
- Listing every tool you have opened once.
- Personal details or a photo the employer did not ask for.

- What is the best resume format for freshers?
- A reverse-chronological format adapted for freshers: contact details, optional summary, education, projects, internships, skills and certifications, on one page in a single column. It keeps the familiar structure recruiters expect while putting your strongest evidence, the projects, near the top.
- Should a fresher resume have an objective?
- Only if it is specific. Two lines naming your degree, focus area and target role help a recruiter place you. A generic objective about being hardworking and passionate adds nothing, and leaving the section out is fine.
- What if I have no projects to list?
- Start with coursework projects, a capstone, a lab assignment you extended, or a small project you build now for the kind of job you want. One well-described project with a link is worth more than a long skills list.
- Should freshers include CGPA or percentage?
- Include it when it is strong or when the job posting mentions a cutoff. If it is low and nobody asks, you can leave it off, but be ready to share it if an employer requests it.
- Can a fresher resume be two pages?
- Rarely. Unless you have published research or several substantial internships, one page is the norm for freshers, and trimming to one page usually improves the resume.
- Should I send my fresher resume as PDF or Word?
- Send a text-based PDF unless the posting asks for Word. Check that you can select and copy the text in the exported file, because that is what applicant tracking systems read.
