Resume examples

How do you write a sales executive resume that shows results you can defend?

A sales executive resume that shows targets met, pipeline managed and the tools you used, with every number one you could explain in an interview.

Sales managers read a sales resume looking for one thing first: did this person hit their numbers, and how big were the numbers? After that they check the kind of selling you did (field or inside, B2B or retail, new accounts or existing ones) and the tools you used. A resume that answers those questions in the first few lines gets a call.

The examples below are fictional. Replace every [bracketed] figure and company with your own, and only include numbers you can explain and, ideally, show.

Lead with target attainment

Attainment against target is the number sales managers compare across candidates. Say what the target was measured in (revenue, units, new accounts), the period, and how you did against it. If you cannot share exact revenue, a percentage of target works.

Show how you sell, not just what you sold

  • The sales motion: cold outreach, inbound leads, field visits, channel partners or retail floor.
  • Deal size and cycle: small repeat orders or large contracts over months.
  • Tools: CRM, lead databases, quoting software, spreadsheets.
  • Territory or segment: region, industry or customer size.

Moving into sales from another role

Retail, customer service, hospitality and call-centre roles all involve selling. Pull out the moments where you persuaded someone, upsold, handled objections or kept a customer from leaving, and give a number where you tracked one.

Career-change sales experience (fictional)

[Customer Service Executive], [Company] — [dates]

• Moved [number] customers a month from basic to [premium plan] during support calls.

• Kept [percentage]% of customers who called to cancel, using [retention offer or process].

Should I include exact revenue figures?

Include them if they are yours and not confidential. Otherwise use percentage of target, number of accounts won or rank in the team.

What skills should a sales executive resume list?

Negotiation, prospecting, product demos, CRM, pipeline management and the industry knowledge the job needs, each backed by an example in your experience.

How long should a sales resume be?

One page up to about five years of experience, two pages for senior roles with several companies.
