A hiring panel reads a teacher resume for four things, usually in this order: what you are qualified to teach, which age groups you have actually taught, whether your licence or registration is current, and what you did in the classroom. Everything else is secondary. A resume that opens with adjectives instead of subject and level makes the panel work to find the basics.
The samples below are fictional. Replace every qualification, school, date and result with your own verified information. Do not describe yourself as licensed, registered or certified unless that is your actual current status with the relevant authority.
State subject and level before anything else
- Qualification and licence: the exact award, the issuing institution, and the current status of any teaching registration.
- Subjects and year groups: name them specifically. "Secondary mathematics, Years 7 to 11" tells a panel more than "experienced educator".
- Curriculum: state which curriculum you have taught, since schools filter heavily on this.
- Safeguarding and compliance: list current child-protection or safeguarding training where the role requires it.
Teacher resume header and summary
[Name] — [subject] teacher, [age range or year groups]
[City] | [Phone] | [Email]
Registration: [actual registration or licence status and authority]
Qualification: [award, institution, year]
Curriculum experience: [curricula you have actually taught]
Summary: [one sentence naming your subject, the levels you teach, and the classroom practice you are strongest in]
Write teaching experience as practice, not as a job description
The weakest teaching resumes copy duties from the job advertisement: planning lessons, marking work, attending meetings. Every teacher does those. Write instead what you specifically planned, taught and changed. Give the class size and level so the panel can judge the context, and name the approach you used rather than claiming a general commitment to excellence.
Only include results you actually measured and are permitted to share. Aggregate class data is usually fine; individual pupil information is not. If a result came from a whole-department effort, say so rather than presenting it as your own.
Teaching experience entry
[Subject] Teacher — [School] — [start date] to [end date]
Taught [number] classes across [year groups], averaging [class size] pupils.
Planned and delivered the [named unit or scheme of work], including assessment and feedback.
Adapted materials for pupils with [specific need], working with the [named support role].
Led [named responsibility, club or intervention] and reported outcomes to [role].
Check before you send
- Subject and year groups appear in the first few lines, not on page two.
- Licence or registration status is stated accurately, including if it is pending.
- Every school, date and qualification matches your records exactly.
- No pupil names, photographs or assessment records appear anywhere in the file.
- Headings are conventional and the text is selectable, so the document survives being parsed or printed.
How long should a teacher resume be?
Long enough to show subject, level, registration and relevant classroom practice without repeating yourself. One page is often enough early in a career; two pages are reasonable once you have several posts, leadership responsibilities or multiple curricula to cover.
Should I include a teaching philosophy?
Only briefly, and only if it is specific. A short line about how you approach assessment or differentiation is useful. A paragraph of general statements about inspiring young minds is not, and it takes space from evidence.
Do I list teaching practice placements if I am newly qualified?
Yes. Label them clearly as training placements, give the school, dates, year groups and what you personally planned and taught. Do not present a supervised placement as a salaried teaching post.
If you are applying in the Gulf, check the UAE CV format guide or the Saudi CV format guide for the documents and attestation schools ask for. For turning duties into evidence, see CV skills with examples. Confirm registration requirements directly with the school and the relevant education authority.
